Smart Running Shoes with Chips - Adidas 1.1posted by MR WAVETHEORY at 10/01/2006 06:00:00 AM
Adidas Salomon AG (FRA ADS) may have finally created a new cool product in the old and boring running shoe market . The Adidas 1.1 has a computer chip that adjusts the cushioning in your sole while you run. It is an Intelligent Shoe. The Adidas site is chalk full of information on the technology.
What is great about the shoe is that it adjusts itself to your running conditions. The heel of the shoe has a magnetic sensor that measures compression by taking thousands of readings every second to provide the microprocessor with the information needed to calculate the ideal level of cushioning. At the heart of the system is a motor driven cable system that tenses and relaxes a cylinder in the heel enabling it to adapt the level of cushioning.
* It senses your every step
* It understands that your needs change when you move faster or slower
* It understands that your needs change when the ground gets harder or softer
Amazon is selling them for $250 a pair. Word is that the shoe breaks easily. It's a bit overpriced but it's great to see that chips are making their way into clothing.
